Lagena—an overlooked oomycete genus with a wide range of hosts

چکیده
Abstract Lagena has so far only been known from the scarcely reported but widespread species radicicola , which is a parasite of root epidermal cells. While it was mostly wide range cereals and other grasses, shown to affect some dicot under, e.g. tobacco sugar beet. Due host spectrum under laboratory conditions, there were no attempts subdivide genus into several species, even though morphological differentiation had found in continents. During survey diatoms, we came across parasitoids that would have previously assumed be members Lagenidium . The exhibited rather narrow specificity nature. One brought dual culture with diatoms Ulnaria could not transferred genera. Surprisingly, phylogenetic analyses revealed sister clade formed by diatom parasitoids, suggesting versatile pathogenicity genus. Interestingly, lineages environmental sequencing clustered this study, hinting an undiscovered diversity

Nigella sativa has attracted healers in ancient civilizations and researchers in recent times. Traditionally, it has been used in different forms to treat many diseases including asthma, hypertension, diabetes, inflammation, cough, bronchitis, headache, eczema, fever, dizziness and influenza. Experimentally, it has been demonstrated that N. sativa extracts and the main constituent of their vola...
متن کاملIsolation of high-quality RNA from a wide range of woody plants
Isolation of high-quality RNA is one of the most crucial methods in molecular biology. RNA extraction from woody plants has been problematic due to the presence of rigid and woody tissues, large amounts of polysaccharides, polyphenols and other secondary metabolites. Here we present a suitable protocol for RNA isolation from a wide range of woody plants that includes eight gymnosperms and four ...
متن کاملSudden oak death: interactions of the exotic oomycete Phytophthora ramorum with naïve North American hosts.
Ten years after a threatening and previously unknown disease of oaks and tanoaks appeared in coastal California, a significant amount of progress has been made toward the understanding of its causal agent Phytophthora ramorum and of the novel pathosystems associated with this exotic organism. However, a complete understanding of the ecology and epidemiology of this species still eludes us. In p...

متن کاملDNA Barcoding: a new tool with wide array of applications
DNA barcoding is a new term introduced in to scientific literatures by Hebert and coworkers almost a decade ago. The concept of barcoding alone is well-known to the public: a series of black bars printed on many commercial products (Universal Product Code), which are used to distinguish different products. Advances made in molecular biology and molecular techniques late 20th century e.g. sequen...
